Limited Edition Apple Crisp Flavored Yoplait yogurt, flavor review

The Sense of Smell We have a heightened sense of smell when we are hungry. Our sense of smell is what allows us to perceive flavor in our food; hence when we plug our noses and chew cinnamon raisin toast, all we taste is sweet, but when we unplug our nose we taste the cinnamon and raisin.     My Impression When I first tried the new limited edition Apple Crisp Yoplait yogurt, I was hungry. I could taste fresh apple pie with oatmeal/brown sugar crumble on top. This yogurt is delicious and very balanced. The second time I ate this yogurt, I did not catch-all the "nuances" that I did when I was hungry, but it is still just as delicious. The flavor in Apple Crisp Yoplait is amazing. I'm in awe of the flavor scientist that … [Read more...]

Yoplait Simplait Yogurt, flavor review

Yoplait Simplait is "simply" the best non-Greek yogurt I have had. It has a wonderful custardy/creamy texture, the perfect tartness, a light cream cheese undertone and delicious flavors of jammy strawberry and buttery vanilla. I am in Awe! In general, processed foods have lengthy ingredient statements that confuse us consumers. This kind of thing keeps most of us preparing our own family meals. In one of my food science classes, the professor used a microwave dinner ingredient statement to explain additives. This microwave meal had 68 ingredients. How are we supposed to decipher all this information? Six simple ingredients is the Yoplait Simplait label, but flavor scientists know otherwise. Flavors can consist of one to several … [Read more...]

Greek Yogurt, Vanilla Flavored products

The yogurt aisle at the supermarket in the US has changed. In 2010, Greek yogurt accounted for 20% of total yogurt sales. (Chicago Tribune March 16, 2012).  Greek yogurt has a creamier texture, higher protein content, tarter/less sweet taste and higher cost than traditional yogurt. The consumer will pay more for this yogurt; in some cases $0.30-0.80 more per cup. If you are relatively new to Greek yogurt, following are taste comparisons of some of  the vanilla flavor products on the market. Greek Gods is my favorite product. I choose the low-fat version of this yogurt flavored with vanilla cinnamon orange.  It reminds me of a custard. Greek Gods makes a truly delicious, treat like product.  All flavors in this product are truly natural … [Read more...]

Chobani Greek Yogurt Strawberry fruit on the bottom review

Greek Yogurt Price I'm cheap. Therefore, even though I've heard people RAVE about Chobani Greek yogurt (because of the high protein), I still did not buy it. Greek yogurt is almost always 3-4X the price of regular yogurt. I have been missing out. Last week I tried the Yoplait Strawberry Greek style yogurt and liked the low sugar, high protein and creamy texture. Today I tried the  Strawberry Chobani Greek style yogurt and fell in love. This yogurt and flavor is absolutely delicious and good for you. Ingredients in Chobani Chobani is most likely more expensive because it uses evaporated cane juice instead of high fructose corn syrup and other all natural ingredients. The process to make Greek yogurt is also different than the standard … [Read more...]

Yoplait Greek Strawberry Yogurt review

My close acquaintances know I have a sweet tooth.   Therefore, I usually have a homemade sweetened vanilla latte or caramel macchiato every morning.      I enjoy my sweetened latte with a muffin, toast with honey, yummy granola bar or  doughnut.    When I visited Italy, their breakfasts consisted of sweet pastries (even pie) with an espresso.   I loved breakfast in Italy. Because my breakfast isn't the healthiest, I tend to get hungry in the late morning.   My go to snack is almost always yogurt.  Yogurt is a healthy snack:  low in calories, high in calcium and has live bacteria. Yogurt is typically convenient and good in taste.  In the last five years there has been a movement towards Greek style yogurt.   Yogurt marketed as Greek Style … [Read more...]
