I am Strawberry

Labeling People By labeling a person in a single category you leave nothing more for them to be. In order to streamline processes, though, managers label and categorize flavor chemists. Depending on the situation, my flavorist label is: natural color expert, savory flavor chemist, sweet flavor chemist, natural flavorist, beverage flavorist, mint flavorist, safety expert and food applications chemist. These are the positive labels but there are also negative ones (which I don't like to think about). Strawberry The most lasting label I've had is "strawberry". Strawberry is one of the top ten flavors for yogurt. It is the second favorite flavor for yogurt after vanilla. (Euromonitor 2007, top 10 flavored yogurts). Strawberry flavor is also … [Read more...]

Yoplait Simplait Yogurt, flavor review

Yoplait Simplait is "simply" the best non-Greek yogurt I have had. It has a wonderful custardy/creamy texture, the perfect tartness, a light cream cheese undertone and delicious flavors of jammy strawberry and buttery vanilla. I am in Awe! In general, processed foods have lengthy ingredient statements that confuse us consumers. This kind of thing keeps most of us preparing our own family meals. In one of my food science classes, the professor used a microwave dinner ingredient statement to explain additives. This microwave meal had 68 ingredients. How are we supposed to decipher all this information? Six simple ingredients is the Yoplait Simplait label, but flavor scientists know otherwise. Flavors can consist of one to several … [Read more...]

Silk Fruit & Protein all natural juice blend, Strawberry Banana review & Non-Gmo Project

Silk beverages come with a "Love it Guarantee or your money back". There is no risk in trying the new Silk Fruit & Protein juice beverage. My family doesn't want our money back,we love it, especially my 5 year old.  She had 2 cups on her first try, with her only complaint the lack of bright pink color. As her mommy, though, I was relieved to see the more natural light pink hue in the soy milk. The lack of neon pink color meant to me that the product is colored with natural fruit and vegetable extracts. The strawberry banana flavor came across as extremely tart with a high amount of jammy strawberry flavor. The beverage was lacking banana flavor, but had a nice sweet vanilla note that came out at the end. I found that the beverage was … [Read more...]

Fage Greek Yogurt Review

As a flavorist and food technologist, I have been extremely fortunate in my career. A large part of my work is tasting products. Evaluating Greek yogurts on the market has been a treat. Especially when it comes to Fage.  It is one of the more expensive yogurts on the market, sometimes listed at $1.89 and it is delicious. I recently tried two flavors (1) Strawberry with 2% milk fat and (2)Cherry Pomegranate with 0% milk fat. Fage yogurt is uniquely packaged, with two cups; one large cup for yogurt and one small cup for fruit. The serving suggestion is not to stir.  Therefore, I scooped out a little yogurt and dipped it in the fruit. The 2% milk fat Greek yogurt that came with the strawberry fruit was amazing: creamy like butter and … [Read more...]

Chobani Greek Yogurt Strawberry fruit on the bottom review

Greek Yogurt Price I'm cheap. Therefore, even though I've heard people RAVE about Chobani Greek yogurt (because of the high protein), I still did not buy it. Greek yogurt is almost always 3-4X the price of regular yogurt. I have been missing out. Last week I tried the Yoplait Strawberry Greek style yogurt and liked the low sugar, high protein and creamy texture. Today I tried the  Strawberry Chobani Greek style yogurt and fell in love. This yogurt and flavor is absolutely delicious and good for you. Ingredients in Chobani Chobani is most likely more expensive because it uses evaporated cane juice instead of high fructose corn syrup and other all natural ingredients. The process to make Greek yogurt is also different than the standard … [Read more...]

Yoplait Greek Strawberry Yogurt review

My close acquaintances know I have a sweet tooth.   Therefore, I usually have a homemade sweetened vanilla latte or caramel macchiato every morning.      I enjoy my sweetened latte with a muffin, toast with honey, yummy granola bar or  doughnut.    When I visited Italy, their breakfasts consisted of sweet pastries (even pie) with an espresso.   I loved breakfast in Italy. Because my breakfast isn't the healthiest, I tend to get hungry in the late morning.   My go to snack is almost always yogurt.  Yogurt is a healthy snack:  low in calories, high in calcium and has live bacteria. Yogurt is typically convenient and good in taste.  In the last five years there has been a movement towards Greek style yogurt.   Yogurt marketed as Greek Style … [Read more...]

Dannon Danimals Smoothie, Swingin Strawberry Banana Flavored review

I have a four year old little girl who loves the pink "yogi milk"  with the monkey on it; Danimals smoothies. Before tasting it, my general  impression was that it must be too sugary, like the other kids yogurts on the market. To me, yogurt is supposed to be healthy.   It is a good source of protein, calcium, healthy bacteria and it should not be laden down with sugar.  Since I was raised by a dairy farmer turned health inspector, I am most definitely pro-dairy. I buy milk, cheese, yogurt, half n half,  sour cream, whip cream and real butter. Sometimes my husband purchases cool whip (non-dairy!) when I'm not with him, but other than that, I opt for real dairy products.  My husband claims cool-whip tastes good. I am pleasantly … [Read more...]
