Sauté Express Land O Lakes, Seasoned Butter & Olive Oil Starter, flavor review

Saute Express, Garlic & Herb

Working moms try to do it all, myself included. Nine years into motherhood, I've concluded, that I can not do it all. I need help. Sometimes I ask for help, hire help or prepare simpler meals. Simple meals tend to lack taste and nutritional. Sauté Express is a unique "helper" and I wonder if the convenience is worth it. An average cook will have a difficult preparing a better blend than Land O Lakes. (It's better than anything I could come up with in the kitchen) Sauté Express Garlic & Herb is impressive. Sauté Express combines butter, olive oil, garlic, spices, salt, pepper, herbs and  lemon in one little square. The balance of garlic flavor with the other subtle flavors is amazing. Kraft Fresh Take, Italian Parmesan recipe, flavor review

Italian Parmesan

My grandmother was a huge influence on my life. She was born in 1892 in Coffey, Missouri and was raised on a farm. Circa 1915 she moved to the San Francisco Bay area, raised my father in Berkeley, California and spent her last 25 years in an in-law unit attached to my family’s house in Orangevale, California. Grandma told me stories of life on the farm, which I idolized and helped create my obsession with the “Little House” series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. She read to me, taught me math facts, taught me how to cook and clean and let me do her weekly grocery shopping. Because of that, my obsession with the food market started at a young age. Grandma had me cook dinner once a week. For unknown reasons, she introduced me to Shake’N Bake … [Read more...]

Cottonseed or Peanut oil; Deep Fried Turkey review

Deep Fried Turkey

When food technologists get together, it's a good time. The topics always center around food and evaluating products. On September 19th 2011 the local Puget Sound Institute of Technologists had a meeting. The topic of the meeting was "Texas Turkey Shootout" and the speaker was an expert in the sensory & nutritional qualities of food oils:  Dr. Clay King, a professor of Food Science at Texas A&M. Dr. King's has a specialty in frying oil, so it was fitting that the topic was choices of oil to deep fry turkey:  cottonseed or peanut oil. Dr. King and a former student, Bradley Scott, rolled up their sleeves and fried the group two turkeys to taste. A manager at the local FDA, Tom McLean, prepared an oven roasted turkey at home and … [Read more...]

Kraft Homestyle Macaroni & Cheese Dinner Review

Kraft Homestyle Macaroni & Cheese Dinner

Kraft macaroni & cheese is a staple of in our house. I am not proud of that fact, but it's the truth. I am also saddened to admit that my family prefers boxed Kraft macaroni and cheese to my homemade macaroni and cheese. When Kraft put out the Homestyle version, I did not see the need for our family to buy it. However, when I looked at the ingredients closer I realized that the sauce in the regular box style is basically artificial colors and milk proteins. Contrary to that, the sauce in the Homestyle version is composed of 4 cheeses (Colby cheese, Parmesan cheese, Asiago cheese and cheddar cheese) and natural extracts for color. It was worth a try. In the Homestyle pouch, came 3 separate bags along with macaroni. The macaroni … [Read more...]
