Dove Coconut Creme Silky Smooth Milk Chocolate Eggs, Flavor Review

Dove Coconut Creme Milk chocolate eggs

Just in: a new study finds that people who eat chocolate several times a week are leaner than people who don't eat chocolate regularly. Great news for those of us who consider chocolate a  food group. All the more reason to make a big purchase of chocolate this Easter! Dove is marketing a coconut crème chocolate egg for the holidays. Personally, I am averse to chocolate and coconut, but Almond Joy tastes good, so it's worth a shot. How are Dove chocolate coconut eggs?  They are ordinary. Ordinary because I'd like to improve the product by adding real coconut shreds to the coconut oil, natural & artificial flavor and skim milk center. Thankfully the coconut flavor is balanced perfectly with the milk chocolate: just a hint. … [Read more...]

Greek Yogurt, Vanilla Flavored products

Greek Yogurt Vanilla flavored products

The yogurt aisle at the supermarket in the US has changed. In 2010, Greek yogurt accounted for 20% of total yogurt sales. (Chicago Tribune March 16, 2012).  Greek yogurt has a creamier texture, higher protein content, tarter/less sweet taste and higher cost than traditional yogurt. The consumer will pay more for this yogurt; in some cases $0.30-0.80 more per cup. If you are relatively new to Greek yogurt, following are taste comparisons of some of  the vanilla flavor products on the market. Greek Gods is my favorite product. I choose the low-fat version of this yogurt flavored with vanilla cinnamon orange.  It reminds me of a custard. Greek Gods makes a truly delicious, treat like product.  All flavors in this product are truly … [Read more...]

A Mom’s View on Food Safety and Sensationalism, “GMOs & Pink Slime”

Food safety has been in the general media recently. Is it for attention and sensationalism?  Do we ignore it, join it or ask for the facts? Facts are always best. It feels good to have a scapegoat for our problems, but it is not productive and can possibly be destructive. Emotional, unthought conclusions should not be considered the truth. For example, my daughter is a brain tumor survivor. She was diagnosed at age two. Brain Tumors are the leading cancer death cause in children. Like any other form of deadly cancer, it is difficult to catch in time.  My daughter's tumor was caught in time and she is one of the 5% that survived without major side effects from treatment. Our family is very grateful for this good luck and we thank her … [Read more...]

Silk Fruit & Protein all natural juice blend, Strawberry Banana review & Non-Gmo Project

Silk Fruit & Protein juice blend

Silk beverages come with a "Love it Guarantee or your money back". There is no risk in trying the new Silk Fruit & Protein juice beverage. My family doesn't want our money back,we love it, especially my 5 year old.  She had 2 cups on her first try, with her only complaint the lack of bright pink color. As her mommy, though, I was relieved to see the more natural light pink hue in the soy milk. The lack of neon pink color meant to me that the product is colored with natural fruit and vegetable extracts. The strawberry banana flavor came across as extremely tart with a high amount of jammy strawberry flavor. The beverage was lacking banana flavor, but had a nice sweet vanilla note that came out at the end. I found that the beverage … [Read more...]

Kraft Philadelphia Chocolate Cream Cheese Spreads, Indulgence review

Kraft Chocolate Cream Cheese spreads

My kids are in seventh heaven. We have all three chocolate cream cheese spreads from Kraft in our house.  We have chosen to try them on vanilla wafers with blueberries or crushed peppermint candy on top. To my daughter's delight, she got to pack a  blueberry bagel with dark chocolate cream cheese spread for lunch. It's like Christmas. These new Kraft chocolate cream cheese spreads are definitely indulgent. Frosting and chocolate cream cheese spread have similar calorie and fat content. Cream Cheese spread has slightly lower calories (120  for 2 tbsp. vs. 140 for prepared chocolate frosting), some calcium (4% DV) and cholesterol. Prepared frosting (such as Duncan Hines Creamy Chocolate) has natural and artificial flavors added. White … [Read more...]

Extra Dessert Delights Rainbow Sherbet flavor review, limited edition

Extra Dessert Delights, Rainbow Sherbet

About six weeks ago, I heard Extra launched a limited edition dessert delights rainbow sherbet flavor; I couldn't find it anywhere and I was frantic. Finally, I saw it at Target in a three pack. Extra has developed a great new line of gum, dessert delights, using the most current flavor technology, sensates.  Sensates are flavors that contribute cool sensation without minty or off flavors. Therefore, a flavor scientist can blend sherbet flavor with a sensate and offer the consumer a refreshing, sweet gum that is cool and not minty. Menthol (the characterizing part of peppermint) and sensates affect the body's thermal receptors by stimulating ionic channels. Our body also feels cool through evaporation. Rainbow sherbet flavor reminds … [Read more...]
